Dover Life Guard Club - Annual Awards Night 2001
| On Friday 7th December in the evening,
Dover's swimmers gathered to celebrate their years
successes. The awards given were for varied
accomplishments, which include swimmers that achieved
high standards in competitive swimming, to those that
have won the clubs Lifesaving competitions during the
year. Club Championship points awards were received by Daniel Clarke and Sian Steer in the Under 10 years category, Nakai Redman and Lucy Dray in the 10 to 12 years and Craig Simmons and Sophie Mitchinson for the 13 to 16 years age group. The senior winners were Adam Knight and Kaira Redman and not forgetting our Masters awards, which were won by Tony Lowe and Shirley Gedge. Club Championship cups (Hughes cups) were given to Liam Steer and Lucy Dray for their winning achievement in the 800m swims, in the 12 and under age group. Katie Witnall won the Dennis Poltock cup for her 1500m swim and Craig Simmons the ODO Road cup again for a wining 1500m swim. The senior cups were won by Adam Knight and Kaira Redman. (T. Mitchell cups) The most improved swimmer identified during the year and awarded with the Gaunt Shield was Matthew Prosser. Two swimmers Guy Hadfield and Adam Patterson achieved a sub 60sec. 100m freestyle swim during the year and were awarded for this achievement. Many swimmers were recognised for their mad dash into the icy sea last Boxing Day. This annual event takes place on the Dover Beach outside the clubs Headquarters at 12:00 Noon. The club also recognised 2 swimmers for their Endeavour during the annual sea swimming events. James Bates and Abby Tyler received trophies from Mr Rod Charge, who's family donated the Jeron Memorial Trophy and Peckham Memorial cup. The Club Colours, which is an award for swimmers that have represented the Club at a various events during the year, were given to many members, to numerous to mention. Finally National Plaques were engraved for Katie Whitnall, Adam Knight, James Cotton and Craig Simmons for their swims at national level. The 2002 club President Mrs Rita Kingsbury presented the awards and once the presentations were over, the swimmers and parents celebrated into the night with a Disco. |
