Brighton Pier to Pier Swim - 22.07.2001

A team of Dover Life Guard Swimmers and supporters travelled to Brighton by coach on Sunday 22nd July, to race in the Brighton Pier to Pier swim.

This is an annual event run by the Brighton swimming club, which always has a large number of entries. The swim starts from the old west pier, where the swimmers have to swim from the beach around a buoy and then off to the popular main leisure pier to finish.

This is the third consecutive year that Dover swimmers have swum in the event, which has seen the Dover boys team win each of these years. This year Adam Knight, Craig Simmons, Gareth Steed and Guy Hadfield formed the team, winning the team trophy and prize money.

The overall race was won by Adam Knight for the third year also, with Craig Simmons following in 2nd place. Gareth Stead came a close 4th and Guy Hadfield was placed 11th male home. Craig also won the Junior trophy this year.

There were also two ladies from the club, Sophie Mitchinson who finished 3rd placed lady and Siobhan Philpot in 37th place.
